Are these car data/finance companies any good ?

Hi

We have had our Vauxhall Astra up for sale for nearly 2 weeks now in Autotrader and only a couple of visits.

We keep getting calls from cardata and similar companies wanting us to sign up for 鎷?5, and they have people waiting apparently in our area to look at the car.

I believe they offer finance and a warranty to people so the buy would get a similar service to a garage but at a private cost.

Are these any good? Has anyone else got an suggestions ?

Thanks

Hi

I guess you are advertising your Vauxhall in a paper or magazine and so far haven%26#039;t sold it. So unless you want to trade it in to a dealer or take it to an auction then its a choice of trying other papers or using one of these firms.

You mention Cardata, they have been going for over 25 years so that says something. Its a free service to register as a buyer and they send you details of suitable vehicles daily by post or email, see their website. So no reason why they shouldn%26#039;t have buyers on their database. The lure of a warranty and finance would obviously encourage people to use their service to buy a vehicle.

It looks like there are several other similar companies that have started up far more recently.

From their website it seems you can log in to see how many buyers have been sent your details which is also helpful in making sure you are attracting a response. See Interactive on their site.

As with all advertising there is no guarantee of success as you have probably already found out, you pay your money and take your chance, but this seems a useful alternative if you don%26#039;t want to continue using papers/magazines etc.

Personally speaking I would steer clear of them.

Anybody wanting to buy a car in your area will already be looking at AutoTrader - either on-line or by buying the magazine .... so presumably they have already seen details of your car already. If they didn%26#039;t want to look at it after spotting the details in AutoTrader why would they come after seeing it through Cardata.

If it is not creating any interest its probably too expensive .... have a look at the price asked for similar cars - in similar condition / mileage etc.

Maybe the Photo lets it down a bit .... would you be interested in the car after reading the ad ?

Just my opinion ..... I wouldn%26#039;t like to part with my hard earned money up front like that with no guarantee of a sale.
